Stacy Leeman: Vessels

Stacy Leeman is an abstract oil painter represented by the Sharon Weiss Gallery in Columbus, Ohio. Leeman earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from Oberlin and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University. Her studies abroad have included a year in Jerusalem and a semester at Parson’s School of Design in Paris.Leeman often takes traditional Jewish texts and creates artworks that use contemporary painting methods. She works as a gesturalist painter using symbols, including the palette itself, to explore themes raised by the text.

Leeman exhibits extensively throughout the United States, and is the author of two books of her own artwork. She lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband Gary Liebesman and their sons Yaakov and Yonah.

Abstract oils filled with tantalizing ambiguity (Sept. 9, 2012)

Filled with deeply colorful shapes in a rhythmic interplay, the paintings of Stacy Leeman are lively and engaging examples of abstract art. But her work has a more direct intent than her imagery might imply. “They’re storytelling,” she said at the opening of her solo exhibition at the Sharon Weiss Gallery. “You say, ‘Really?’ But I like that they’re ambiguous.” ….
